In our world, a vintage wonderland, there’s really only one queen of our fashion hearts. The ultimate vintage style muse, is for us – Kate Moss.
Okay, Kate is an iconic supermodel. Her work spans decades and her face is famous around the world, but aside from that I’ve always admired the way Kate Moss has handled her ups – and mega downs – in the public eye and happily makes fun of herself for a charitable cause.
She’s more than just a British superstar of the fashion industry, her incredible range of personal styling echoes the just-got-out-bed Brit cool that just can’t be replicated anywhere else in the world. She’s doesn’t embody the ‘rock star girlfriend’ look, she is the rock and the star entirely.
I’m inspired by all kinds of retro styling – from the full on head-to-toe attire like Dita Von Teese, or the boho nod to an era (think the Olsen twins) but Kate Moss has an absolutely effortless way of doing both. She can look like she stepped out of an era at a red-carpet gala without looking like she is in fancy dress. She can also throw together a casual dog-walking ensemble rocking a vintage waistcoat, leopard print fur or festival worthy mini dress.
Kate’s timeline of vintage inspired ensembles would take all day to deconstruct, so here are some of my favourite outfits, because there are few celebrities who can seamlessly move between era’s as flawlessly as Mossy……

Good as Gold
Kate Moss in 1930’s pale gold vintage Christian Dior gown at a V&A Gala, with aptly named ‘leg of mutton’ style sleeve. Paired with a simple, bold red lip and leopard print clutch. Perfection.
Babe in Blue
I love this vintage 70’s periwinkle blue Gipsy Thea Porter maxi, a folk-style blouson dress with irregular hem worn by Kate at her wedding rehearsal dinner – complete with powder blue suede boots, delicate silver jewellery and velvet blue drawstring pouch. Hell….yes.
Disco Queen
For her 30th birthday party, themed F. Scott Fitzgerald’s ‘the beautiful and the damned’, Kate donned studio 54 inspired disco curls and a killer midnight blue sequin maxi, smoky eyes and cape. I pretty much love everything about this – what an outfit for a milestone birthday!
Like a Lady
A softer look can be seen in ladylike rust brown and white polka dot 50’s inspired halter dress. Cinched at the waist with a wide leather belt, a simple clutch bag and chic Hepburn style sunnies polish off the look. This look could be a tad wholesome and suburban, but Kate wears it in a far cooler way.
Showstopper Style
Very few people can pull off a pale gold lame turban (Joan Collin, back in the day perhaps?) but Kate absolutely can. The matching one shouldered mini dress, killer heels and flash of sapphire and diamond ring on her finger is the ultimate 1920’s chic at the 2009 Met Gala. This look salutes SO many styles in one go…. Parisian Chic, 70’s glam, Egyptian Hollywood movie and exotic princess. Who else wants turbans to come back into everyday fashion?
Casual Cool
Even Kate's off-duty style embraces so many era's of inspiration, from 70's kimono's and 60's boots to 40's look floral tea dresses. I have never seen a Kate Moss ensemble I dont love! So here's a cheers to salute the queen of cross decade fashion inspiration.
