“We bought a fantastic charity calendar from the lovely girls at What Alice Found.   This is sold in aid of the Wessex Autistic Society and is full of lovely vintage inspired piccies  from in and around Bournemouth so do snap one up if you can.”

For the month of September

september1

The calendar is being printed as we write this blog post! Hurrah! Just a few more sneak peeks left before you can see and buy the real thing!

This month is September, taken in the pretty woodlands in Blandford with one of the coolest caravans around….

september2

The incredibly awesome model Kimberley ventured into the woodlands donning some English heritage vintage attire; pinstriped blazer, black silk blouse, hunting hat, brooch handmade by passionflower creations, white pleated midi skirt and victoriana boots. We didn’t have our normal hair and make up superstar with us – so were lucky to have Beauty call on hand at a wedding fair nearby to assist the look we wanted. Thanks ladies!

The caravan was loaned to us by the equally awesome Anna of Miss Dolly’s vintage tea parties – who have this wonderful 1950′s caravan, lovingly restored and available for hire. It is a beautifully decorated, quaint addition to a party or function – perfect for photos!

september3

Nearly all our fly on the wall blog posts are up now, a few more months to go before the calendar itself is released.

A very Alice Christmas to you all…

We would like to welcome you to our winter wonderland, with a Alice inspired Christmas window of sparkles, snow and vintage shimmer.

The lovely folks at Artcetera, just up the road from us at 853 Christchurch Road, loaned us two gold frames to suspend in our window display, to set against glittery ballgowns and fairytale present ideas, from vintage high heels to chiffon robes…..

A VERY ALICE CHRISTMAS 3

…exciting too is the work of three talented local artists represented by South West Artwork who have made bespoke ‘Alice’ and vintage themed works of art for our boutique this Christmas. Anissa Lee creates hand-cut paper installations and artwork – look at these delicate designs for our window, a queen of hearts teacup, crown and a hat fit for a mad hatter! Look at her website for more of what you can order in store…

A VERY ALICE CHRISTMAS 4

Designer Neil Leonard brings us a unique typography range of Alice in Wonderland quotes, framed, and a perfect gift for any Alice enthusiast….

A VERY ALICE CHRISTMAS 2

…and you can now purchase A3 and A4 prints of Bournemouth Graduates Katherine Tromans vintage fashion illustrations in store too.

A VERY ALICE CHRISTMAS 6

You can get vintage goodies you really want this year by filling in a ‘wonderland wishlist‘ in store, hand it in at the till and tell your loved ones so they can buy your fave items in secret! We also offer gift vouchers as a lovely Christmas pressie too.

For the month of October

october 1

The beautiful backdrop for the 2012 calendar month of October was Fishermans Walk  – a historic green space near to the busy shopping area of Southbourne Grove. These fly on the wall shots are of the lovely Freya in a stunning ensemble against the autumn tones of nature.

Wearing a bright green vintage pleat maxi dress and a faux fox fur 1970′s maxi coat to match, Freya waltzed effortlessly amidst the trees and carpet of leaves as Emily Fisher (Photographer from Fishee Designs) snapped away to get that perfect shot…

october 2

Did you know…. Fishermans Walk in Southbourne Bournemouth was opened in 1913 by the then Mayor of Bournemouth and was “for the use of the inhabitants of Bournemouth for ever” ?

Since then the gardens have been preserved for both residents and visitors alike. The friends of Fishermans Walk was launched in 2006 and consists of local volunteers, who liase with Bournemouth Council to maintain and improve this beautiful open space.

To see the final beautiful calendar shot you can buy the calendar – as from next week!

For now, you can still see the sneak peek snapshots on our tagged blog posts.

For the month of March…..

March calendar_2

The next behind the scenes sneak peek at one of our Vintage 2012 Calendar photo shoots was the lovely Jana, posing in a hot bubblegum pink 1960′s maxi – looking glam to the max in a local laundrette. The lovely folks at Suds on Winton high street let us use their premises as a highly contrasted backdrop for this shot, and the equally lovely customers all moved to one side while we styled and snapped away – albeit looking slightly bemused!

March calendar_1

Looking every bit the part with a beehive courtesy of hair and make up artist Lisa-Marie Lewis, Emily Fisher of Fishee Designs captured Jana reading a collectible 1950′s edition of Vogue Magazine against the whirring machines, in her vintage dress, vintage gold high heels and 1950′s glasses.

March calendar_3

To see the final image – you’ll have to buy the calendar! In store in a weeks time, or you can pre-order online.

You can see more behind the scenes photos of the 13 photoshoots we have done for this project!!

The Wonderland Wishlist…

list poster copy

Someone just told us there are 7 Saturdays for Christmas shopping left!

We instantly started running round the room screaming ‘Nobody Paaaniiic….’. Then we calmed down and came up with a cunning plan – if you want to avoid the ‘oh , it’s what I’ve always wanted ‘ fake present delight, why not hint at what you ‘d like to find in your stocking with our Wonderland Wishlist?

Simply pick up a wishlist in store, note down your name and the items of things that take your fancy and leave it with us at the till. Then you can point people in your life in our direction, they can request to see your list and secretly buy for you the items you really love.

It’s like a wedding gift list, except you dont have to share it with your other half. (Kidding)

(Okay, not kidding).

When vintage and art collide….

Katherine Tromans Cherry Vintage art 1

A key part of our ethos here at ‘What Alice Found‘ is collaboration, old meeting new, art meeting fashion, vintage getting a nice new home…

We are therefore delighted to announce that the very talented illustrator Katherine Tromans, a Bournemouth Arts University graduate, had produced a series of fashion illustrations based on our Cherry Closet Vintage photographs, with our model Rachel DiBiaso -  We LOVE them!

Katherine Tromans Cherry Vintage art 2

The prints are printed on 145 g/m matte paper, and signed by the artist herself. Prices are £20 for A3 and £10 for A4. You can come in and view them in store, or buy online through The Cherry Closet website and have them delivered straight to your door!

If you are interested in art, fashion illustration or vintage and looking for a gift, or something to adorn your home – these prints are just purrfect. You will be supporting a talented graduate and independent fashion boutique at the same time!

Katherine’s illustrations are also represented by South West Artwork and you can see more of her beautiful work on her blog.

“I remember always being fascinated with creating art throughout my life. I have been quoted as having quite an intricate and delicate style, which is organic and fluid. My drawings are detailed, and tend to have the same colour palette…”

For the month of December

december 1

For our Christmas themed calendar photoshoot for December we wanted a magical, sparkly, dimly lit atmosphere in the shop itself. As owner and Alice enhusiast myself, it seemed only fitting that yours truly make an appearance in her own shop calendar, despite grumbling that ‘I prefer being behind the camera not infront of it‘ over and over again…

december 2

Lisa-Marie Lewis created big doll like curls, shimmery eyes, fake lashes (I wish they were real!) and I wore a glittery vintage silk butterfly cape – perfect for capturing the sparkles. With the shop in darkness apart from tiny feather fairy lights, Emily Fisher, the photographer from Fishee Designs snapped away in the shop.

For the month of August

august1

Our second sneak preview of the two beach photo shoots for the Vintage 2012 calendar is for August, during sunset on Boscombe beach. Our lovely model Rachel was dressed in one of our 1970′s tiered ruffle maxis with matching cape and ribbon waist belt, the folk style dress had colours that toned in exactly with the muted hues of cream, blue and brown of her seaside surroundings…..

august2

Lisa-Marie Lewis, who provided all hair and make up styling – gave Rachel oversized beach curls and dark, smoky eyes and pale lips. Photographer Emily Fisher of Fishee Designs spotted a striking, and slightly worn vintage VW camper just begging to be involved further down the beach, (and it matched her outfit) So we seized the moment and draped our lovely lady against it for the perfect vintage snapshot…

august3

To see the stunning final shot – you’ll have to buy the calendar – out in the next few weeks! You can see the other behind the scenes pics of monthly photo shoots on our tagged posts too…
