If the shoe fits

Alices shoe

On a recent hunt for vintage treasure we spotted this lovely silver shoe with rope lacing and felt drawn to it.

When we looked closer – we realised why……

To Alice

Inscribed on the front was ‘ From Fred , To Alice’.

Its the fairytale perfect find!

We found ourselves conjuring up stories of where it was from,  who Fred and Alice might have been, and the story behind this lovely little shoe.

Such a little trinket, so full of character – and perfectly at home in ‘What Alice found’.

Words are all I have….

We’d like to welcome the newest local artist Neil Robert Leonard brought to What Alice Found by South West Artwork.

Neil designs high quality framed typographic posters and prints with striking and well know quotations in a range of great colours and sizes. Even better -  he also offers unique personalised commissions for very reasonable prices!

Pop by the boutique to view his work in person, or to find out more about getting a customised print with your favourite lyrics, quote or wording of your choice.

We’re thinking an Alice in Wonderland quotation might just be on the cards….

I feel the need, the need for speed.

Tick tock said the dating clock

The manager at What Alice Found, Nicki, had her first foray into speed dating in Bournemouth last night.

The big question was …what should she wear?

With a shop full of vintage fabulousness (yes, its a word) it should be simple to put together an outfit to impress any man right?

So, with the aid of Emily Fisher of Fishee designs and some slightly bemused customers we set about styling her up….

Look number one

80's prom...spot on

I’ve got love for you, if you were born in the eighties, the eighties.

Glam. Prom. Side ponytail. Yes.

Too much?

Look number two

The boudoir look

Boudoir chic.

Not sure if you get arrested going to a public event in nightwear

Too little?

Look number three

The ring leader

All eyes on me in the centre of the ring just like a circus (a’la Britney.)

Does a whip send the wrong message?

***

(In the end she went for vintage silk shirt, jeans, heels and a messy bun.)

Wimp.

All the small things

Vintage dresses

One of the things we love about vintage clothing are the quirky small details that you discover on a garment from one of its many past lives.

knots and embroidery

Sailors and butterflies

Be it a button…. a hem…. a lace collar…..

Ropes and sparkles

Buttons and sequins

……an eccentric fabric or just beautiful beading.

Lace and beading

pink sequins and diamente ribbons
